Steady 27's Rock Black Forest Bar

-Tamara Feingold

Moving in next door to a band could be a good thing or a bad thing. If they’re bad, you’ll be forced to endure sleepless nights as they practice nearby. But if they’re good, you have access to instant free entertainment.

Luckily when my roommate and I first heard our new neighbor’s jam session, we instantly fell in love. We brought blankets out to the front lawn to listen to the addicting music of the Steady 27’s.

With guitarist and vocalist Max Richter, bassist Kyle Yarak, and drummer Lucas Edmands, the Steady 27’s music is mostly alternative rock with a bluesy sound at times. Their main influences are The White Stripes, The Black Keys, and Arctic Monkeys, and their sound is a fresh yet gritty combination that leaves the listener interested.

“We want people to have a good time when they’re with us. We just want people to have fun with it, because we’re having fun,” said Richter. Last night’s show was no exception when the band played at Black Forest bar in Eugene where they play about once a month. It was a lively set with a few new songs and some old favorites like “Give Me” and “The Mission District”, and the audience enjoyed the original music.

As for the future, the band plans to focus on gaining a larger following in Eugene with audiences of loyal listeners and newcomers alike. The band hopes to play five more shows before 2012 and will record a full album once a few new songs are added.
